Corruption
Our current representative body is using tax dollars in many ways that aren't beneficial to the Ohio citizens those taxes are supposed to be supporting.
Rather than see tax dollars given to corporations and spent to fight laws the citizens of Ohio overwhelmingly voted into the Constitution, taxes should be used to support taxpayers.
Civic Engagement
Civic engagement has been steadily declining. Fewer people run for local offices and vote every year. This is why we see the same faces re-elected again and again.
I am in favor of state policy that would allow for training and support of local individuals who would like to run for office or get involved in the civic process in other fashions.
Personal Rights
We are guaranteed the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Oppression of any kind flies in the face of this promise, which our founding fathers made to us.
No lawmaker should ever create legislation using their personal morals to oppress, discriminate, or infringe upon any Ohioan's right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
2nd Amendment
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
I support the amendment in its entirety and in the context it was written. Modern interpretations detach the right from the responsibility of weapons usage and that needs to stop.
Religion in Laws
"No person shall be compelled to attend, erect, or support any place of worship, or maintain any form of worship, against his consent"
- Article 1, Section 7
Ohio Constitution
I will not support any unconstitutional legislation that forces Ohioans to abide by a faith they do not share. This state, and this Country, are not and should not ever become a Theocracy.
Health
Societally, we have lost faith in and focus on the Constitutional approach to public health. Additionally healthcare costs have become prohibitively expensive for many.
The preamble of the Constitution dictates that public safety and personal freedoms must be balanced and a greater effort must be made to ensure healthcare is achievable for all Ohioans.
Drugs
Addiction is a criminalized disease. Those who struggle with this disease are punished rather than given the help they need to recover.
Support the designation of addiction as a public health crisis to provide addicts with life-saving assistance while criminally targeting the marketing and distribution
of illegal drugs.
Economic
Prosperity
The loss of young, educated talent drains the state of a strong economic advantage and a lack of support for skilled labor hurts the middle class.
I would work towards policies that encourage a culture of technology and entrepreneurship and forge better pathways through apprenticeship programs .
Energy
Under current laws, Ohioans are forced into energy dependence.
I will support policy that allows property owners with alternative energy sources to sell their excess back to the grid. This will decrease Ohio's dependence on other energy suppliers.
